NOV 20: As part of the ongoing World Heritage Week 2025 celebrations, Principal Secretary Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma, today flagged off a group of more than 500 students for a heritage walk in Jammu. The event, organised by the Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums (AA&M), aims to promote awareness among the younger generation about the importance of preserving and protecting India’s rich cultural and historical legacy.

The week-long celebrations, being held across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, include a series of programmes designed to sensitise the public towards safeguarding built heritage, traditional arts, languages, and local cuisines. The heritage walk, held at one of Jammu’s iconic heritage locations, witnessed enthusiastic participation and echoed with spirited slogans such as “Love Heritage, Save Heritage,” reinforcing the collective resolve to protect cultural assets.

In addition to the walk, the Department also organised a “Happiness Camp” in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation at the heritage lawns of the historic Mubarak Mandi complex. The camp aimed to promote mental wellness, positivity, and emotional balance among students while connecting them with the cultural ambience of the city’s heritage precincts.

Director, AA&M, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, highlighted that such initiatives serve as essential steps in cultivating awareness among youngsters about the need to cherish historical monuments, preserve local traditions, and uphold the region’s diverse cultural identity. He emphasised that these activities act as precursors to long-term community engagement and capacity building in heritage conservation.

The Department of Culture will continue to host multiple events throughout the week to deepen public understanding and appreciation of Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural wealth.
