Jan 19: In a vibrant celebration of India’s rich and diverse cultural legacy, IIM Jammu, in collaboration with renowned theatre and cultural organisation Natrang, is set to present ‘Colours of India’, a mega dance production that will showcase the artistic soul of Bharat through movement, rhythm and expression.
The grand cultural event will feature around 150 dance performances, bringing together an impressive blend of classical, folk and contemporary dance forms from across the country. Conceived as a tribute to India’s timeless artistic traditions, the show aims to highlight the unity in diversity that defines the nation’s cultural fabric.
The production is being directed by Padma Shri awardee Balwant Thakur, a stalwart of Indian theatre and cultural expression. Under his artistic vision, Colours of India promises to be a visually rich and emotionally resonant experience, capturing the essence of India’s regional identities while presenting them on a single मंच (platform).
Each performance in the show will reflect the unique cultural ethos of different regions of India, portraying stories rooted in tradition, spirituality, social life and contemporary narratives. From age-old classical styles to vibrant folk expressions and modern interpretations, the event seeks to bridge generations and celebrate the evolution of Indian performing arts.
Speaking about the initiative, organisers highlighted that Colours of India is not just a cultural programme but a celebration of India’s artistic heritage and creative spirit. The collaboration between an academic institution like IIM Jammu and a cultural institution like Natrang underlines the importance of integrating culture, creativity and education.
The event also aligns with broader efforts to promote cultural awareness, national integration and appreciation of India’s intangible heritage, especially among youth and academic communities. By presenting such a large-scale cultural showcase, the organisers aim to inspire young audiences to connect with India’s traditional art forms while embracing innovation.
With its scale, diversity and artistic depth, ‘Colours of India’ is expected to be a landmark cultural event, reaffirming the enduring relevance of dance as a powerful medium of storytelling and cultural expression in modern India.
