Aug 10: India’s defence production has surged to an unprecedented ₹1.51 lakh crore in the financial year 2024–25, marking a remarkable 18% growth over the previous fiscal’s ₹1.27 lakh crore output.
The milestone underscores the country’s rapidly expanding defence industrial base and aligns with the government’s vision of self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the achievement, calling it a “clear indicator of the strengthening defence industrial base.” In a social media post, he praised the Department of Defence Production and industry stakeholders for their contributions in achieving this record-breaking figure.
Experts note that the growth reflects increasing domestic manufacturing capacity, higher demand for indigenous defence systems, and sustained policy support for Make in India in the defence sector. The rise in output is also expected to boost exports, strengthen national security, and reduce dependence on imports.
With this pace of growth, India is positioning itself as a key player in the global defence market while reinforcing its strategic autonomy.
