NOV 15: India’s clean energy transition received a significant boost as Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna CPSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), exchanged Government Orders (GOs) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for two major renewable initiatives—a 1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Nandyal and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project.

The exchange took place during the Energy Session of the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam. The event was organised by the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in collaboration with CII, bringing together key stakeholders from the energy and industry sectors.

The Ministry of Power had earlier designated SECI as the implementing agency for the large-scale BESS project through its order dated 23 January 2025. The project received formal approval from SECI Board Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi on 22 October 2025. Meanwhile, MNRE has been monitoring progress on both the BESS and hybrid solar projects to ensure timely and effective execution.

Both projects will be developed under the CAPEX Mode, with SECI taking full responsibility for investment and implementation. The Government Orders were formally handed over by Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Shri Gottipati Ravi Kumar, in the presence of Chief Secretary Shri K. Vijayanand and NREDCAP Vice Chairman M. Kamalakara Babu. SECI was represented by Shri Sivakumar Venkat Vepakomma and Shri Rohit Choubey.

The collaboration marks a major step toward strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity. By expanding storage capability and hybrid power generation, these initiatives will support India’s broader transition toward a greener, more resilient energy grid.
