SEP 16: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Skill Development, and Innovation at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun. The facility, spread across 1.5 lakh sq. ft., marks Uttarakhand’s first NVIDIA DGX B200-powered AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) centre.
Highlighting the potential of AI, Dr. Singh cautioned that while the technology can deliver transformative solutions, its misuse through deepfakes and misinformation remains a major concern. “AI can perform miracles if used wisely, but integrity has no technological substitute. Without ethics, even the best tools lose their value,” he told students and researchers.
The new centre features an Apple iOS Development Centre (set up with Apple and Infosys) and a high-end HPC system with 8 GPUs and 1.74 TB GPU memory, developed at an investment of over ₹10 crore. It will drive innovation in healthcare, agriculture, environment, smart cities, and advanced industrial applications.
Graphic Era University, ranked 48th in NIRF 2025 and graded A+ by NAAC, is India’s first Generative AI Ready Campus powered by AWS. The university leadership said the facility would strengthen Digital India, Startup India, and Skill India by nurturing skilled talent and entrepreneurs in emerging technologies.
Dr. Singh drew parallels with AI-enabled telemedicine vans delivering healthcare in rural areas through hybrid human-AI models, underscoring the importance of accountability in governance. He stressed that India, once a late technology adopter, now leads in space and quantum research, and must sustain this growth by linking academia with industry and startups.
