NOV 02:The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch the Indian Navy’s GSAT-7R (CMS-03) communication satellite today, 2 November 2025, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The satellite marks a significant technological milestone, being the most advanced and heaviest communication satellite developed indigenously for the Indian Navy, weighing approximately 4,400 kg.

Designed and built entirely in India, GSAT-7R will play a crucial role in strengthening the Navy’s space-based communications and maritime domain awareness across the vast Indian Ocean Region. The satellite features cutting-edge indigenous components tailored to meet the Navy’s operational requirements, reflecting India’s growing commitment to Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense and space technology.

Equipped with advanced transponders operating across multiple communication bands, GSAT-7R will provide secure, high-capacity telecommunication links supporting voice, data, and video connectivity. It will enable seamless coordination between ships, aircraft, submarines, and Maritime Operations Centres, enhancing the Indian Navy’s ability to monitor, communicate, and respond effectively in real time.

This new-generation satellite is set to significantly bolster India’s maritime surveillance and strategic communication infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity even during high-intensity operations.

The launch of GSAT-7R underlines India’s steady progress in integrating space-based assets with national defense networks, empowering the armed forces with reliable communication systems. As security challenges grow more complex in the Indo-Pacific region, this indigenous achievement reinforces the Navy’s resolve to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests through technological superiority and self-reliant innovation.
