MARCH 17:The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today unanimously passed the recommendations put forth by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) regarding the business schedule for the House. This significant move ensures the smooth functioning of the House, with the revised schedule reflecting the legislative priorities and adjustments for the coming sessions.

The motion was moved by Mubarak Gul, a member of the Assembly, who highlighted the necessity of adopting the recommendations to ensure effective proceedings. Following this, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, put the report to a voice vote. The motion was unanimously passed by all members, underscoring the collective agreement on the proposed schedule and changes.

As per the recommendations, the House will sit on March 17, 22, and 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. The schedule includes a one-hour break from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, allowing members to take a brief respite before resuming proceedings. This timetable aims to provide ample time for the discussion of various matters while maintaining an efficient and structured approach to the legislative business.

In addition to the regular sitting schedule, the BAC also decided to reschedule certain government business. The Government business that was originally planned for April 11, 2025, will now be conducted on March 25, 2025. This change ensures that the legislative agenda is streamlined and the proceedings are not disrupted by conflicting schedules or overlapping issues.

To further facilitate the smooth functioning of the legislative proceedings, the BAC made provisions for written replies to Demands for Grants. If any Ministers choose to read out written replies, these responses will be circulated to all members of the House, ensuring transparency and allowing members to review the information beforehand. This measure is intended to promote clarity and ensure that all members are well-informed during discussions.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining decorum and discipline in the House, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather urged the Party Leaders and Chief Whips to direct their members to uphold the highest standards of conduct during the proceedings. He stressed that maintaining discipline is crucial for the smooth and productive functioning of the Assembly.

Lastly, the revised legislative calendar, which was appended to the BAC report, was also unanimously approved by the members. This updated calendar ensures that the Assembly’s legislative work is carried out in an organized and timely manner, aligning with the broader goals of governance and legislative efficiency in Jammu and Kashmir.
