Jammu Assembly’s Zero Hour Filled with Discussions on Constituency-Specific Public Issues

MARCH 13:The Zero Hour in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly  saw multiple public issues being raised by various Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), with each addressing concerns affecting the people in their respective constituencies. The session highlighted several urgent issues that require immediate government attention.

MLA Gulabgarh, Er Khursheed Ahmad, raised a critical concern regarding the tragic road accident in Reasi district, which resulted in the loss of four lives. He urged the government to improve medical facilities for the injured individuals who were admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu and the District Hospital (DH) in Reasi, ensuring they receive proper treatment. The MLA stressed the importance of timely medical care for accident victims to save lives and prevent further complications.

MLA Poonch Haveli, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, brought up the case of a missing young man, Yawar Rashid, who had traveled to Jammu for an examination but has been missing since. The MLA sought the Speaker’s intervention to urge the authorities to take swift action to locate the missing youth. He appealed for a thorough investigation and assistance in finding Rashid, emphasizing the distress caused to his family and the community.

MLAs from the Kashmir Division, including Salman Sagar, Irfan Rasool Kar, Mushtaq Guroo, and Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad, raised concerns over the delayed installation of streetlights by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other municipal bodies. They highlighted the urgency of accelerating the process, especially with the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan. The MLAs emphasized that the timely installation of streetlights would bring much-needed relief to the residents, ensuring better safety and convenience during the nights of Ramadhan.

Similarly, MLA Shangus-Anantnag East, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, brought attention to the issue of smart meter installations in his constituency. He pointed out that the installation of smart meters had led to the disconnection of previously installed streetlights, causing inconvenience to the public. He urged the authorities to restore the streetlights to avoid further disruptions.

MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju, raised concerns regarding the inadequate number of ration depots in his constituency, especially in the 10 hilly panchayats that currently rely on only two ration depots. He called for the establishment of additional depots to ease the difficulties faced by the people in accessing essential food supplies.

Finally, MLA Banihal, Sajad Shaheen, expressed his concern over the vacant Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) post in Banihal, which has been affecting administrative efficiency in the area. He urged the government to immediately fill the vacant position to ensure smooth governance and better service delivery to the people of Banihal.

These concerns raised by the MLAs reflect the ongoing struggles of the people in various regions of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for prompt government intervention.
