MAY 04: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital to deliberate on several critical issues concerning the Union Territory. The discussion was primarily focused on the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in light of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Abdullah provided a comprehensive briefing to the Prime Minister regarding the current situation in the region following the brutal terrorist strike that took place on April 22 in the scenic Baisaran Valley, located within the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam. The horrifying incident led to the tragic loss of 26 innocent civilian lives, shaking the conscience of the entire nation and leaving the people of Jammu and Kashmir in deep mourning.

Expressing profound grief, Omar Abdullah conveyed the overwhelming sense of sorrow and anger felt by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in response to the attack. He emphasized that the region’s residents remain united in condemning such acts of senseless violence and are determined to uphold the values of peace and communal harmony.

He further apprised the Prime Minister of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s recent move to unanimously pass a resolution on April 28. The resolution strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and represented a collective and bipartisan stand by the elected representatives of the Union Territory. The Assembly’s action, Abdullah said, clearly demonstrates the unwavering resolve of the people’s representatives to combat terrorism and preserve the fragile peace in the region.

The Chief Minister underscored that this unified stance is not limited to the political class but is also echoed widely across civil society in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the Prime Minister that the people are resolute in their rejection of violence in any form and are committed to building a safer and more stable future.

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the Chief Minister’s concerns and assured continued support from the central government in addressing the challenges faced by the region, particularly in maintaining security, fostering peace, and aiding the victims of the recent tragedy.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to peace and cooperation between the Centre and the Union Territory leadership.
