OCT 03: The Ministry of Mines, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and leadership of Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy, has launched a Pan-India E-Waste Recycling Drive as part of Special Campaign 5.0, being observed from October 2–31, 2025. The initiative emphasizes both Swachhata in government offices and the scientific disposal of electronic waste to enable resource recovery.
The campaign was inaugurated at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi by Secretary (Mines) Shri Piyush Goyal. The drive is being rolled out nationwide in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development & Design Centre (JNARDDC), with nodal sites at Nagpur and Hyderabad, supported by central and regional offices, CPSUs, field units, and autonomous organisations of the Ministry.
The e-waste collection aims to clear obsolete devices such as computers, laptops, printers, LED displays, and mobile phones. A dedicated collection stall has been set up at Shastri Bhawan, while employees may also pre-book home pick-up services.
To ensure efficient recycling, JNARDDC has partnered with Attero, India’s leading e-waste recycling company. Attero has set up 20 collection stalls nationwide, leveraging its globally patented technologies to process e-waste and lithium-ion batteries. Valuable resources such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, graphite, and rare earth elements (neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium) are being recovered—key for clean energy systems, defence, and advanced manufacturing.
By reintegrating these recovered materials into domestic supply chains, the initiative supports the National Critical Minerals Mission, reducing import dependency and strengthening India’s transition to clean energy.
Through this drive, the Ministry of Mines is aligning Swachhata with sustainability, turning discarded electronics into a strategic resource while advancing the vision of a cleaner, more self-reliant Bharat.
