JU Hosts Workshop to Foster Biotech Startups and Innovation

NOV 06: The School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the J&K Science, Technology & Innovation Council (JKSTIC), organized a one-day workshop on “Startups and Skill Development: Translational Research from Lab to Market” at the University Campus.

The event brought together scientists, academicians, and entrepreneurs to motivate research scholars and students to translate scientific research into viable startups and market-ready innovations. The workshop was convened by Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Director, School of Biotechnology, and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Additional Director, JKSTIC.

Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the need to integrate research with entrepreneurship to drive innovation-led regional growth. Guest of Honour Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dean Life Sciences, urged participants to focus on real-world applications of research and collaborative approaches across disciplines.

The technical sessions featured talks by Dr. Saurabh Saran from CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, who discussed building an entrepreneurial ecosystem for agri-based startups, and Dr. Khalid Masoodi from SKUAST-Kashmir, who shared his journey as founder of Cashmir BioTech Pvt. Ltd., highlighting innovations like the anticancer product “Magic Food Taxo.”

Faculty, research scholars, and students actively participated in interactive discussions on challenges and opportunities in translational research. The workshop concluded with a wrap-up by Dr. Nisha Kapoor, reaffirming the commitment to fostering startup culture and innovation within academia.
