JULY 258: In a significant boost to rural infrastructure in north Kashmir, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar, inaugurated the macadamization of inner link roads in the Seeloo and Bomai areas of Baramulla district. The move is part of the government’s larger push to improve connectivity and infrastructure in rural regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The newly launched macadamization works are expected to provide immediate relief to residents who have long demanded better road surfaces to ensure smoother travel and improved access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities. Speaking at the event, the Minister noted that these projects are aligned with the government’s broader vision to create durable infrastructure that empowers rural communities and bridges developmental gaps.
Alongside the macadamization project, Minister Dar also laid the foundation stone for the widening of the Watlab–Chetkak road, a key transit route in the district. The road, once upgraded, will significantly reduce commute times, ease the movement of goods and services, and enhance access to interior villages.
He emphasized that the administration is working with a mission-driven approach to deliver time-bound and transparent development, especially in rural belts. “The government’s commitment to rural development is unwavering. Upgrading roads is not just about connectivity—it is about creating opportunities for growth, tourism, education, and social integration,” he said.
The Minister further highlighted that the Watlab–Chetkak stretch holds strategic importance for local tourism and economic activities. Its expansion will pave the way for increased movement and provide vital last-mile connectivity to many remote households.
Senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and district administration, along with local Panchayat members and a large number of residents, were present during the inauguration ceremony. The public expressed appreciation for the swift action taken by the government to fulfill long-pending demands and lauded the Minister for his hands-on approach to local issues.
The Minister assured the locals that more infrastructure projects were in the pipeline and would be implemented in a phased and planned manner to ensure maximum benefit for the rural population of Baramulla.
