MARCH 12:A significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) in the presence of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal. The MoU focuses on the development of a state-of-the-art Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which aims to transform the logistics and transportation landscape of the region.
The proposed MMLP will cover an expansive 150-acre area, strategically located to offer seamless connectivity to major transportation routes. The park will be directly linked to National Highway 7 (NH7) through a 650-meter access road and is situated just 1.5 kilometers from the crucial NH7-NH2 junction, ensuring ease of access for both road and rail transportation.
A key feature of the MMLP is its integration with the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, providing a 5.1 km railway line connection from Jeonathpur Station. This integration will significantly enhance the movement of goods by rail, improving overall efficiency in logistics operations. Additionally, the park’s location near National Waterway-1 will allow for smooth waterway transportation, further enhancing its multi-modal connectivity.
Another strategic advantage of the MMLP is its proximity to Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, located just 30 kilometers away, making it an ideal hub for air cargo operations as well. The project’s multi-modal infrastructure will enable the efficient movement of goods through road, rail, and waterways, facilitating a seamless logistics experience.
The MMLP project is expected to bring substantial economic benefits, including significant investments in the region. It will also create numerous employment opportunities, strengthening India’s logistics sector. By improving trade efficiency and transportation logistics, the park is poised to drive economic growth, boost exports, and enhance the competitiveness of Indian businesses in the global market.
This initiative reflects the Indian government’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure and reinforcing the country’s position as a global economic powerhouse. The MMLP in Varanasi is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing India’s logistics capabilities, making it a crucial project in the country’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and promote economic development.
