NOV 26: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has successfully concluded the fourth edition of its Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for the 2025–2026 cycle. Held from 10 November 2025, the programme saw 80 university students from 16 States and Union Territories complete the internship, gaining exposure to a broad spectrum of human rights issues.
Delivering the valedictory address, NHRC Secretary General Shri Bharat Lal congratulated the interns and encouraged them to consider themselves privileged for being selected from a large pool of applicants. He highlighted that the programme offered a rare opportunity to engage with experts and practitioners working in different domains of human rights. Shri Lal urged the participants to evolve into human rights ambassadors, using the insights and values acquired during the internship to raise awareness and call attention to rights violations in society.
He stressed that human rights must not only be understood conceptually but also practised in everyday life. According to him, a society that respects human dignity can only be built by individuals who are empathetic, responsible, and conscious of the needs of others. Shri Lal further encouraged the interns to read and reflect upon the Fundamental Rights and the Directive Principles of State Policy, and to explore ways in which they can contribute meaningfully to the protection and promotion of human rights.
Earlier in the programme, Smt Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak, Joint Secretary, NHRC, presented the internship report and shared details of the 46 sessions conducted by NHRC Members, senior officials, experts, and civil society representatives. She also announced the winners of the various competitions held during the internship. The event was attended by senior NHRC officials, including Shri Samir Kumar and Lt Col Virender Singh.
