Jammu, January 24: Labour Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir, Charandeep Singh, today reviewed the implementation and progress of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) scheme during a meeting with all Assistant Labour Commissioners (ALCs) of the Union Territory.
During the review, it was informed that a total of 85,954 unorganised workers have been registered under the PM-SYM scheme in Jammu and Kashmir so far. The Labour Commissioner assessed the ongoing registration drive and noted that necessary planning mechanisms are already in place to further accelerate enrolment under the flagship social security initiative.
Emphasising the need for sustained momentum, Charandeep Singh directed all Assistant Labour Commissioners to continue the registration process in a mission-mode, with special focus on intensified field-level activities. He stressed that awareness and sensitisation efforts must be strengthened through Information, Education and Communication (IEC) initiatives, awareness camps, and direct interaction with unorganised workers across urban and rural areas.
The Labour Commissioner also underscored the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure wider coverage under the scheme. He instructed officers to actively involve other line departments and key stakeholders so that eligible beneficiaries are identified and enrolled at a faster pace, ensuring that the benefits of PM-SYM reach every unorganised worker in the Union Territory.
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) is a flagship social security scheme of the Government of India aimed at providing old-age protection to unorganised sector workers. Under the scheme, workers aged between 18 and 40 years can enrol by making a nominal monthly contribution, matched equally by the Central Government. Upon attaining the age of 60 years, beneficiaries are entitled to a minimum assured pension of ₹3,000 per month.
Reiterating the significance of the scheme, the Labour Commissioner said that PM-SYM is a crucial instrument for ensuring long-term social and financial security for unorganised workers. He called upon all field officers to work with greater coordination, commitment and accountability to ensure effective implementation of the scheme across Jammu and Kashmir.
