AUG 03: In a significant development aimed at supporting the agricultural community of Jammu and Kashmir, a sum of ₹184 crore has been disbursed to over 8.80 lakh farmers under the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The financial assistance was transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, further reinforcing transparency and accountability in the scheme’s implementation.
The installment was disbursed during a nationwide virtual event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was simultaneously attended by lakhs of farmers across the country. In Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Javid Ahmad Dar joined the live event at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K). The event served as a platform to celebrate the government’s unwavering commitment to farmers’ welfare and rural empowerment.
The PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme continues to act as a crucial lifeline for small and marginal farmers across India, including those in the Himalayan region of J&K. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal installments, helping them meet agricultural needs, buy inputs, and ensure timely cultivation. This steady income support plays a key role in strengthening the rural economy and improving food security in the Union Territory.
The direct credit of ₹184 crore is not just a financial milestone—it reflects the ongoing policy push towards inclusive growth and agricultural self-reliance. It also aligns with the broader goals of doubling farmers’ income and creating sustainable livelihoods in rural belts.
With the rollout of this 20th installment, the cumulative funds transferred under the PM-Kisan scheme in Jammu and Kashmir alone have touched new highs, reiterating the central government’s dedication to empowering farmers and boosting the agri-economy. Local authorities, agriculture department officials, and farmers’ representatives at SKUAST-K expressed gratitude for the government’s consistent outreach and support.
This development highlights how central welfare schemes, when effectively implemented, can bring tangible improvements to the lives of grassroots communities. As agriculture remains the backbone of the regional economy, the timely assistance through PM-Kisan ensures that no farmer is left behind.
