SEP 01: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives caused by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said: “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected.”
The earthquake, which struck parts of Afghanistan earlier today, has caused widespread devastation and casualties. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with local authorities and international agencies assessing the scale of the damage and mobilizing assistance for the affected communities.
Prime Minister Modi’s message underlines India’s longstanding commitment to extending support to its neighbours during natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Over the years, India has provided timely relief assistance—ranging from medical supplies and food aid to technical support—in the aftermath of earthquakes, floods, and other emergencies across the region.
The assurance of humanitarian assistance comes at a crucial time for Afghanistan, which continues to face significant challenges in disaster management due to limited resources and infrastructure. India’s readiness to provide aid reflects its Neighbourhood First policy and commitment to standing in solidarity with people affected by tragedies in the region.
The Indian government is expected to coordinate with Afghan authorities and international relief organisations to determine the nature and scale of assistance required.
Prime Minister Modi’s heartfelt condolences and assurance of support have been widely noted, reinforcing India’s image as a responsible regional partner committed to humanitarian values and cooperative disaster response.
