AUG 10: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has hailed Operation Sindoor as proof that India can defeat its enemies through home-grown strength. Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of BEML’s Greenfield Rail Manufacturing Facility – BRAHMA in Umariya, Madhya Pradesh, on August 10, 2025, he described the operation as a strong reply to the terrorist attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. “We do not provoke anyone, but those who provoke us will not be spared,” he asserted.
The Defence Minister credited indigenous equipment for the success of Operation Sindoor, underlining India’s pledge to become Aatmanirbhar in defence. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for transforming the defence sector, noting record-breaking defence production of ₹1.51 lakh crore and exports worth ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25. India, he said, is now meeting the security needs of friendly nations while accelerating its own self-reliance.
Highlighting economic progress, Singh stated that India’s economy is growing at around 6.5% and is on course to become the world’s third-largest. The government, he said, is working to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The BRAHMA facility, spread over 148 acres, will be a world-class manufacturing hub for rolling stock, including Vande Bharat trainsets, metro cars, high-speed rail coaches, and Electrical Multiple Units. With an initial capacity of 125-200 coaches per year, scaling up to 1,100 within five years, it will cater to domestic and export markets. The project will generate over 5,000 jobs, boost local supply chains, and encourage MSMEs, especially in Madhya Pradesh’s industrial belt.
Designed with sustainability in mind, BRAHMA will feature zero liquid discharge systems, renewable energy integration, rainwater harvesting, and green landscaping, meeting top environmental and safety norms. Singh called projects like BRAHMA vital for strengthening India’s industrial and defence base, ensuring the nation remains strong, secure, and globally competitive.
