NOV 19: Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy held an important meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to review the current status and future expansion plans of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), along with broader developments in the state’s steel and mining sectors. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram also joined the deliberations.
Calling the discussion “fruitful,” Minister Kumaraswamy said the central focus of the meeting was to strengthen Odisha’s position as one of India’s leading steel and mining hubs. Senior officials from the Ministry of Steel and the Government of Odisha participated, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of ongoing projects and future requirements.
During the interaction, the Union Minister highlighted three key areas of discussion: the operational performance of RSP, the proposed capacity expansion of the plant, and broader issues related to enhancing steel and mining output within the state. He emphasized that Odisha, with its abundant mineral wealth and expanding industrial infrastructure, continues to play a pivotal role in India’s steel growth trajectory.
Speaking to the media, Minister Kumaraswamy shared that the Chief Minister had assured full cooperation to facilitate the smooth expansion of RSP and the larger steel industry. “The Chief Minister has extended complete support towards achieving Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision of 300 million tonnes of steel capacity by 2030,” he said.
The meeting reflects strong Centre–State coordination aimed at accelerating industrial development in Odisha. Reaffirming continued collaboration, the Minister noted that joint efforts would be essential for upgrading infrastructure, boosting production capacity, and supporting national economic goals.
The discussion marked a significant step in reinforcing Odisha’s leadership in India’s steel sector and advancing the country’s progress toward the 300 MT target.
