JUNE 28: The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, marked Electrical Safety Day with a nationwide awareness program held in New Delhi, in collaboration with BSES. The event highlighted India’s deepening commitment to building a zero-harm, smart electrical ecosystem, aligned with its transition toward clean and digital energy.
This year’s theme, “Smart Energy, Safe Nation,” emphasized the need to integrate safety into every level of India’s modern energy infrastructure—including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) charging networks, and rooftop solar installations.
The program was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, who launched “Suraksha Shakti,” an engaging safety mascot designed to raise awareness across communities. He also unveiled the Electrical Safety Handbook, a comprehensive guide for stakeholders including utilities, technicians, prosumers, and everyday consumers.
In his keynote address, the Minister stressed that while electricity is a force for progress, it must be handled with caution. He urged citizens and technicians alike to treat safety not just as a rulebook, but as a way of life. “We must build not only a Smart India, but a Safe India,” he said.
Senior leaders including Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, and Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, CEA, echoed the importance of embedding safety as a cultural value in India’s energy evolution.
The event drew participation from over 300 industry professionals, regulatory officials, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), OEMs, and students, with over 25,000 viewers joining virtually via a live webcast.
Key features included technical sessions on electrical safety, interactive presentations, and a ventriloquist act by Sh. Satyajit Padhye, which simplified safety messages for a broader audience.
Looking ahead, the campaign will extend into a week-long national outreach, including school safety pledges, industry workshops, and public engagement through Suraksha Shakti. The initiative aims to instill a lasting culture of safety in every household and workplace.
This year’s Electrical Safety Day stands as a powerful collaboration between policy, practice, and people—uniting India under a common goal: smart energy powered by safety and care.
