MARCH 28: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process for the 77-Nagrota and 27-Budgam Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in Jammu and Kashmir. This revision, with a reference date of 01.04.2025, is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of the electoral rolls as the bye-elections for these constituencies are approaching. The ECI has outlined the schedule and procedures for the SSR, which will ensure that all eligible voters are included in the rolls, and no ineligible persons are registered.
According to the schedule issued by the ECI, the rationalization of polling stations will take place on 04.04.2025 (Friday). This step is important to ensure the efficient distribution and accessibility of polling stations in the concerned constituencies. Following this, the integrated draft electoral roll will be published on 08.04.2025 (Tuesday), which will allow for public scrutiny and verification of the voter list.
To facilitate the participation of citizens in the revision process, filing of claims and objections will be allowed from 08.04.2025 (Tuesday) to 24.04.2025. This period will give individuals an opportunity to raise any issues regarding their voter status, including discrepancies or omissions in the electoral roll. The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by 02.05.2025 (Friday), ensuring that all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
The final and updated electoral roll for the constituencies will be published on 05.05.2025 (Monday), marking the completion of the Special Summary Revision process. This final list will reflect the accurate and up-to-date voter base, ready for the upcoming bye-elections.
The Election Registration Officer (ERO) for each concerned constituency will be responsible for ensuring that the electoral roll is accurate and inclusive. The ERO will work closely with the District Election Officer (DEO) and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to verify that all eligible citizens, as per Article 326 of the Constitution of India and Section 16 and 19 of the Representation of People Act, 1950, are enrolled as electors. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring that no ineligible persons are included in the electoral roll.
The ECI has reiterated the importance of this process in ensuring a fair and transparent election system. The SSR will play a pivotal role in enabling citizens of the Nagrota and Budgam constituencies to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming bye-elections.
