AUG 15: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) successfully held the third round of the Sensitization-cum-Review Meeting of Statistical Advisers (SAs) on 14 August 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to review progress and strengthen institutional coordination for building a robust, data-driven decision-making ecosystem across government ministries and departments.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Adil Zainulbhai, Ex-Chairman, Capacity Building Commission, and was attended by Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog; Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY; Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India; Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI; and several Statistical Advisers from central ministries. Welcoming participants, Dr. Praveen Shukla, Additional Director General, MoSPI, highlighted the objectives of the meeting.
In his keynote address, Shri Zainulbhai appreciated MoSPI for fostering data-driven governance and promoting international best practices. He stressed the need to modernize national data systems, transition towards paperless, real-time surveys and encourage the use of AI at all levels. He described Statistical Advisers as custodians of data integrity and urged them to harmonize traditional and emerging data sources.
NITI Aayog CEO Shri Subrahmanyam acknowledged MoSPI’s foundational role in generating timely data and welcomed the monthly release of PLFS statistics. He supported the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence for improving data quality and encouraged regular dissemination of economic indicators.
Shri S. Krishnan emphasized strengthening interoperability and privacy of datasets through coordinated efforts across ministries. Chief Economic Advisor Dr. Nageswaran called for generating credible and user-friendly data in a timely manner and urged advisers to explore new data sources.
Technical sessions were held on topics such as SDG monitoring, metadata management, industrial statistics and infrastructure monitoring. The meeting concluded with an interactive session, reaffirming MoSPI’s commitment to develop a modern and innovative National Statistical System.
