SEP 30: The Housing and Urban Development Department organised the Sewa Parv Celebration in Jammu, bringing together stakeholders, policymakers, and citizens to discuss the evolving vision of urban development. The event served as a platform to highlight innovative approaches aimed at shaping cities that are not only modern and vibrant but also sustainable and environmentally resilient.

Addressing the gathering, I expressed my thoughts on the importance of sustainable urban infrastructure in meeting the growing demands of expanding cities. With rapid urbanisation, there is an urgent need to strike a balance between development and ecological preservation. Infrastructure planning must be future-oriented, integrating eco-friendly practices, green spaces, renewable energy, and efficient waste management systems.

A major emphasis was laid on the role of smart technologies in urban governance. Digital tools, data-driven solutions, and intelligent monitoring systems can significantly improve service delivery in areas such as transportation, water supply, sanitation, and housing. The integration of such technologies ensures not only efficiency but also transparency and inclusivity, ultimately leading to more livable and citizen-centric cities.

The Sewa Parv also underscored the spirit of community participation in city development. Citizens, civil society groups, and local bodies have a vital role in shaping the urban ecosystem. By working collectively, we can mitigate pressing challenges such as pollution, traffic congestion, and resource management while simultaneously ensuring socio-economic opportunities for all.

The event reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to creating urban spaces that blend modern innovation with sustainability. The vision is clear: to transform Jammu and other cities into vibrant centres of growth that reflect efficiency, inclusivity, and harmony with nature.
