Aug 10: As the echoes of devotion from the recently concluded Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra still resonate across Jammu and Kashmir, the spirit of unity and civic pride surged once again—this time on the streets of Jammu. In a vibrant prelude to Independence Day celebrations, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organised the much-awaited Swachh Jammu Run 2025, an event that seamlessly blended fitness, patriotism, and the national cleanliness mission.

The run was flagged off by Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, who lauded the participants for not only embracing the fitness challenge but also standing as ambassadors for two vital causes—Har Ghar Tiranga and cleanliness awareness. Over 2,000 runners, including school children, college youth, sports enthusiasts, civic officials, and senior citizens, took part in the 5 km and 10 km categories, turning Jammu’s early morning streets into a moving tricolour mosaic.

A Run with a Purpose

More than a sporting event, the Swachh Jammu Run 2025 was a rallying cry for a cleaner, greener city. Placards, slogans, and banners carried by participants reinforced the message that a clean Jammu is not just a civic responsibility but a shared dream. From energetic teenagers to determined elders, every stride reflected the belief that cleanliness is both a duty and a form of patriotism.

Har Ghar Tiranga – The Tricolour in Every Home

The run also served as a powerful public engagement initiative for the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, urging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes during the Independence Day celebrations. The sea of runners donning saffron, white, and green attire, waving miniature flags, and singing patriotic songs evoked a sense of national pride that was contagious.

Community Engagement and Cultural Spirit

The event wasn’t confined to runners alone—local residents came out in large numbers to cheer, distribute water, and even join parts of the run spontaneously. Street corners turned into mini-festivals, with cultural performances, patriotic music, and art displays adding a celebratory touch.

JMC Commissioner Rahul Yadav emphasised that the run is part of a broader campaign to instill behavioural change regarding cleanliness, waste segregation, and civic responsibility.

Looking Ahead

With the momentum from the Swachh Jammu Run 2025, the city is now set to host a series of Independence Day activities, aiming to create a cleaner, more inclusive, and more vibrant Jammu. As the runners crossed the finish line, it was clear—this was not just about kilometres covered, but about steps taken towards a better, united India.
