NOV 14:Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, chaired an important review meeting to evaluate the performance and functioning of the School Education Department in the Kashmir Division. The meeting was aimed at identifying gaps, assessing ongoing initiatives, and strengthening mechanisms to ensure that students across the region receive equitable, high-quality education.
During the review, the Minister took serious note of reports regarding unregulated textbook sales in several areas. She directed the concerned officers to initiate strict action against those involved in exploiting parents and students through unauthorized pricing or the circulation of non-prescribed books. She emphasized that only government-approved textbooks and learning materials must be followed, and any deviation from established norms will be dealt with firmly.
Sakeena Itoo also highlighted the importance of timely distribution of textbooks, uniforms, and other essential learning materials. Delays, she said, directly affect classroom learning and disproportionately impact students from marginalized communities. She instructed officials to streamline supply chains and ensure that every child receives the required materials well before the commencement of the academic session.
Reiterating the government’s vision of “Quality Education for Every Child,” the Minister stressed the need to strengthen teaching standards, classroom practices, and academic monitoring in all schools. She urged the department to enhance teacher training, promote digital learning tools, and maintain strict oversight on school functioning to improve learning outcomes.
The meeting also covered issues such as school infrastructure, attendance monitoring, integration of social welfare schemes, and health-related support for students. She called for coordinated action between the Education Department and district-level authorities to resolve pending issues and deliver services efficiently.
Sakeena Itoo reaffirmed that education remains one of the government’s top priorities and that no compromise will be tolerated when it comes to students’ welfare. She urged all stakeholders to maintain accountability, transparency, and dedication in their efforts.
The review concluded with clear directives aimed at strengthening systems, protecting students’ interests, and ensuring a stronger and more inclusive educational landscape across Kashmir Division.
