Feb 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today begins a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at reviewing the prevailing security situation, assessing development initiatives, and inspecting anti-infiltration measures along the International Border. The visit comes amid heightened security arrangements across the Union Territory.
During his visit, the Home Minister is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with senior officials from the security forces, civil administration, and intelligence agencies to assess the internal security situation. Particular emphasis will be laid on counter-infiltration strategies, border management, and the preparedness of security agencies.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be Mr. Shah’s inspection of the Border Security Force (BSF) ‘s anti-infiltration measures in Hiranagar, a sensitive sector along the International Border in the Jammu region. The inspection is expected to focus on surveillance systems, fencing, and technological upgrades aimed at preventing cross-border infiltration.
Sources said the Home Minister will also review progress on ongoing development projects and is likely to launch or inaugurate several key initiatives during his stay. These projects are expected to span infrastructure, public welfare, and capacity-building sectors, reinforcing the government’s focus on development alongside security.
Security has been significantly tightened across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the visit. Additional deployments, enhanced surveillance and strict checking arrangements have been put in place to ensure a secure environment during the Home Minister’s engagements.
Officials said the visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on maintaining peace, strengthening border security and accelerating development in Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister is also expected to interact with senior BSF and police officials to review coordination among different security agencies.
Mr Shah’s visit comes at a time when the government has been emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism while simultaneously pushing for economic growth, infrastructure expansion and improved governance in the Union Territory.
The three-day tour is also seen as an opportunity to assess ground-level implementation of security policies and development योजनाओं, and to send a strong message regarding the government’s commitment to stability, growth and public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
