OCT 12: Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led the 44th edition of ‘Sundays on Cycle (SOC)’ in New Delhi, highlighting the critical role of doctors and health professionals in promoting fitness and preventive health. The nationwide initiative encourages citizens to adopt active lifestyles and combat lifestyle diseases such as obesity.
Addressing participants, Dr. Mandaviya lauded the contribution of medical professionals, stating, “When a doctor advises on health, people listen. Their involvement in Sundays on Cycle amplifies the message of fitness across India.” He emphasized that a healthy body and mind form the foundation of a strong nation and urged citizens to embrace cycling as a simple, effective form of exercise.
The event featured enthusiastic participation from people of all ages, alongside World Para Athletics Championship medalists Sailesh Kumar, Praveen Kumar, and Sonam Rana, who motivated attendees to prioritize physical activity. Alongside cycling, the event offered Zumba, rope skipping, Yogasana, and a Game Zone, ensuring activities suitable for all age groups.
Organized in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Yogasana Bharat, MY Bharat, and local partners like Raahgiri Foundation and Red FM, SOC has become one of India’s leading fitness movements. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that the initiative now reaches over 10,000 locations nationwide, from remote villages to major cities, promoting the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 through fitness.
The 44th edition reaffirmed SOC’s mission: to make fitness a community-driven habit, foster preventive health, and inspire citizens to lead active, healthy lives, reinforcing India’s commitment to building a stronger, healthier, and more resilient nation.
