MARCH 22: The District Administration of Reasi, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik, celebrated World Water Day 2025 with a series of events aimed at raising awareness about water conservation. This year’s World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, focused on the critical role water plays in sustaining life, and the theme “Glaciers – A Critical Lifeline” highlighted the essential contribution of glaciers in providing meltwater for drinking, agriculture, industry, clean energy production, and healthy ecosystems.

A major highlight of the celebrations was the organization of special Gram Panchayats across 153 Panchayats in 12 blocks of Reasi District, spearheaded by the Rural Development Department. These community-driven events aimed to spread awareness about water conservation and address local water-related concerns. The activities included a Jal Shapath (Water Pledge), water testing, and the redressal of public grievances related to water availability and management.

The day’s events saw active participation from a wide range of community members, with approximately 20,000 people joining in the celebrations. In addition to the Gram Panchayats, the Jal Shapath was also taken across 966 Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) organized by the ICDS Department and by students in 931 schools facilitated by the School Education Department. The pledge served as a collective commitment to preserving and conserving water for future generations.

Various schools in Reasi also organized engaging activities to promote the importance of water conservation. These included painting competitions, slogan-writing contests, Nukkad Nataks (street plays), rallies, symposiums, and quiz competitions centered around themes like “Save Water, Save Life.” These events were designed to make the younger generation more aware of the importance of water conservation and inspire them to take action.

The celebration also included plantation drives at different locations to highlight the interdependence of water and the environment. These drives aimed to emphasize the role of greenery in maintaining water resources. Additionally, the Jal Shakti Department conducted water testing in several panchayats using Field Testing Kits to assess important water quality parameters such as pH levels, chloride, and ammonia content. This initiative aimed to promote safe water practices and ensure access to clean drinking water for the community.

Through these collective efforts, the District Administration of Reasi successfully engaged the community in active water conservation measures, making World Water Day 2025 a day of awareness, action, and commitment towards securing the future of water resources in the region.
