SEP 10: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane greenfield access-controlled Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar. The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) and spans a total length of 82.4 km, with an estimated capital outlay of ₹4447.38 crore.
The corridor will improve connectivity between key towns and cities including Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger, ultimately linking to Bhagalpur. The route passes through a region witnessing rapid industrial growth, including ordnance factories, locomotive workshops, food processing hubs, and textile clusters, particularly around Munger and Bhagalpur.
Designed for an average speed of 80 km/h and a maximum speed of 100 km/h, the highway will enable faster, safer, and uninterrupted movement for both passenger and freight vehicles, reducing travel time to around 1.5 hours.
The construction is expected to generate approximately 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect employment. In addition to the infrastructure boost, the corridor is anticipated to spur regional economic development, enhancing logistics efficiency and boosting local industries like Bhagalpuri silk, agro-warehousing, and manufacturing.
The project reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening eastern India’s infrastructure, reducing regional disparities, and supporting Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and PM Gati Shakti goals.
