MAY 13: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, paid solemn floral tributes today to Shri Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the fifth President of India, on the occasion of his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The tribute was a mark of national remembrance for one of the country’s distinguished leaders who played a key role in India’s post-independence political landscape.
The ceremony was held in the hallowed premises of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Murmu placed flowers before a portrait of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, acknowledging his contributions to the nation with dignity and respect. A select gathering of officials and staff joined in the commemoration, reflecting on the statesmanship and service of the former President.
Born on May 13, 1905, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed held the office of President from 1974 until his untimely death in 1977. He was the second Muslim to occupy the highest constitutional post in India and is remembered for his commitment to constitutional values during a politically volatile period, including the Emergency years.
In her tribute, President Murmu emphasized the importance of remembering the contributions of past leaders who helped shape the democratic and inclusive foundation of the Republic. “Shri Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed’s life was a symbol of integrity, service, and devotion to the Constitution,” she noted in her official statement.
