SEP 04: In the wake of incessant rains that have disrupted normal life in South Kashmir, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, along with Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Nasir Aslam Wani, visited Kulgam district to take stock of the prevailing situation. The visit was aimed at assessing the impact of the heavy downpour, reviewing relief measures on the ground, and ensuring that the administration remains fully prepared to tackle any emerging challenges.
During their inspection, the Minister and the Advisor directed the district administration to remain on high alert and strengthen its response mechanisms to safeguard the lives and property of people. They emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides. The officials further instructed the administration to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, including food, drinking water, medicines, and electricity, so that residents do not face hardships in this difficult period.
Special focus was laid on intensifying ground-level response and deploying additional teams for rescue and relief operations. The authorities were asked to establish close coordination between disaster management units, police, health services, and local bodies to respond swiftly in case of emergencies. They also stressed the importance of timely evacuations from vulnerable and low-lying areas, particularly in locations where flooding or soil erosion poses an immediate threat to human settlements.
Minister Sakeena Itoo reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguard the well-being of citizens and underlined that medical teams and emergency health services are on standby to provide immediate assistance. Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani assured the people that the administration is fully geared to address all challenges and urged officials to maintain direct communication with locals to promptly resolve their concerns.
The visit by the two senior leaders has brought relief and reassurance to residents, signaling that the government is closely monitoring the situation. The proactive directions issued to the administration highlight the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing the crisis, ensuring that timely interventions and preventive measures are undertaken to minimize damage and safeguard lives.
