SEP 08: President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India in the national capital today. Addressing the gathering, she lauded EEPC’s remarkable contribution to the growth of India’s engineering exports and urged its stakeholders to take a pledge towards making India a leading global innovation economy.

The President noted that in ancient times, India was not only a spiritual hub but also a major center of trade and knowledge. Recalling this rich legacy, she emphasized that reviving India’s position as a knowledge-driven and trade-oriented global power should be the collective resolution of all citizens. She particularly called upon EEPC, as a key stakeholder in the economic sector, to pursue this vision with determination.

Highlighting India’s achievements, President Murmu pointed out that engineering exports have grown substantially in the past decade—from USD 70 billion to over USD 115 billion—despite global challenges in international trade. She appreciated EEPC’s role as a bridge between Indian producers and international markets, and encouraged it to expand India’s participation in global value chains.

Underscoring the need to convert global trade challenges into opportunities, she said that the evolution of India’s engineering export destinations over the last seven decades reflects the sector’s adaptability and strength. She urged EEPC to sustain this momentum with the spirit of “Nation First,” and to focus on building resilience in India’s economy.

The President further remarked that India’s strength lies in delivering high-quality engineering products and services at competitive costs. With Global Capability Centres of leading multinational corporations already present in the country, she emphasized the need for creating a stronger innovation ecosystem. Such an ecosystem, she said, would empower India’s talent and energy, driving the nation towards becoming not just a “catch-up economy” but a true “innovation economy.”

Calling on EEPC and its stakeholders to embrace this mission, President Murmu concluded by stating that innovation-driven growth would ensure India’s prosperity and global competitiveness in the decades ahead.
