OCT 10:The 3rd edition of the International Purple Fair 2025 was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, at a vibrant ceremony celebrating inclusion, talent, and empowerment of persons with disabilities. The festival serves as a prominent platform showcasing the abilities, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential of differently-abled individuals, reaffirming Goa’s commitment to building an inclusive and accessible society.
Speaking at the event, CM Dr. Sawant highlighted the significance of inclusive thinking, noting that Purple Fair has evolved into a symbol of empowerment and opportunity. He underlined the government’s continuous support for initiatives that encourage skill development and social participation among persons with disabilities.
Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, emphasized that persons with disabilities are not merely beneficiaries, but active contributors, entrepreneurs, and professionals. He applauded the paradigm shift in societal perception—from viewing disability as limitation to recognizing ability and contribution.
Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Minister of Social Welfare, Goa, stated that inclusion is not charity but a governance principle that ensures dignity, independence, and recognition. Similarly, Shri Ramdas Athawale, MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, praised India’s commitment to the welfare of all communities, highlighting the role of leadership in advancing inclusive growth.
The event also featured remarks from Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, DEPwD, who highlighted the effective functioning of State Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities (SCPDs), disposal of over 50,000 complaints, innovative outreach programs, CSR interventions worth ₹50 crore, and mobile courts addressing petitions. State Commissioner Shri Guruprasad Pawaskar described the festival as a unique platform to demonstrate talent, resilience, and creativity of persons with disabilities.
Organized by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Directorate of Social Welfare, Entertainment Society of Goa, and DEPwD, the Purple Fair brought together dignitaries, ambassadors, NGO representatives, and media personnel. The festival underlined India’s commitment to inclusive governance, empowerment, and recognition of contributions made by persons with disabilities, inspiring a society where every individual thrives with dignity and opportunity.
