DEC 20 : Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Army Commander of the Northern Command, visited Shahsitar in the Surankote area to review ongoing counter-terrorism operations and assess operational preparedness of troops deployed in the region. The visit underscored the Indian Army’s sustained focus on maintaining high alertness and operational effectiveness in sensitive areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma was briefed by formation commanders on the prevailing security situation, recent operational developments, and measures being undertaken to counter terrorist threats. Detailed briefings covered intelligence-based operations, area domination efforts, and coordination mechanisms with other security and intelligence agencies.
The Army Commander emphasised the importance of mission readiness at all times, noting that evolving security challenges demand constant vigilance and adaptability. He stressed that operational success in counter-terrorism operations depends on a proactive posture, swift decision-making, and seamless coordination at all levels.
Highlighting the growing role of modern technology in military operations, Lt Gen Sharma underlined the need for effective integration of advanced surveillance systems, intelligence tools, and battlefield technologies. He stated that leveraging technology enhances situational awareness, improves response times, and strengthens the ability to pre-empt threats in difficult terrain.
Inter-agency coordination emerged as a key focus during the review. The Army Commander reiterated that close cooperation between the Indian Army, local police, intelligence agencies, and other security forces is critical for maintaining peace and stability. He called for regular information sharing and joint planning to ensure a comprehensive and unified security response.
Interacting with troops on the ground, Lt Gen Sharma lauded their professionalism, dedication, and adaptability while operating in challenging conditions. He appreciated their high morale and commitment to duty, stating that their efforts continue to play a decisive role in safeguarding civilians and maintaining law and order in the region.
The Army Commander also took stock of troop welfare, logistics, and administrative arrangements, stressing that operational effectiveness is closely linked to the well-being and motivation of soldiers. He encouraged commanders to continue prioritising training, leadership development, and welfare initiatives to sustain operational excellence.
