SEP 03: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today chaired a crucial high-level meeting in Jammu to assess and accelerate the post-flood restoration measures being undertaken across affected regions. The meeting was held in the wake of directives issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has stressed the need for urgent, coordinated action to bring relief to families reeling under the impact of recent floods.
During the review, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of seamless inter-departmental coordination to ensure immediate relief reaches the ground without delays. He instructed departments to work in complete synergy so that road connectivity, power supply, and potable water—three of the most critical lifelines—are restored at the earliest.
Recognizing the health risks posed by contaminated water and damaged infrastructure, Dulloo directed the establishment of medical camps in every flood-affected village. He further ordered strict testing of all water sources to ensure the safety of drinking water and called for safety audits of public buildings and infrastructure to prevent further hazards.
Beyond immediate relief, the Chief Secretary highlighted the government’s commitment to long-term resilience building. He underlined that rehabilitation must not be limited to temporary fixes but should be guided by improved infrastructure planning, climate adaptation, and disaster preparedness strategies. “Every calamity is a reminder that we must invest in stronger systems and sustainable development to reduce future risks,” Dulloo stated.
The meeting brought together senior officials from departments of health, power, public works, water supply, and disaster management, with a unified approach to fast-track both relief distribution and infrastructure restoration.
By balancing short-term relief with long-term planning, the government aims not only to provide comfort to affected families but also to lay the groundwork for a safer, more resilient Jammu.
