AUG 05: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan emphasized the urgent need to embrace disruptive technologies, reassess legacy military structures, and foster Tri-service synergy to meet modern security challenges. He delivered the keynote address at the inaugural Trident Lecture Series, hosted by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) on its Foundation Day at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt.

Speaking on the theme ‘Dominating the Future Battlespace’, General Chauhan highlighted the growing complexity of warfare and stressed technological convergence and integrated operations as essential to maintaining national security. He called for agile adaptation across armed forces structures to effectively counter evolving threats.

The event saw the release of the first General Bipin Rawat Paper on Manned-Unmanned Teaming, honouring the legacy of India’s first CDS and his pivotal role in advancing jointness and transformative defence reforms. The August 2025 edition of Synergy, CENJOWS’ strategic journal, was also launched during the event.

The Chief of Integrated Defence Staff addressed the urgency of Tri-services reforms, laying out timelines and key institutional measures for effective restructuring. A second lecture by the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation and Training) explored Indian civilisational statecraft and its relevance in shaping future warfighting doctrines.

The Trident Lecture Series is envisioned as an annual platform for fostering strategic foresight, joint planning, and policy innovation, addressing the shifting dynamics of warfare and security architecture in the 21st century.
