OCT 14:Member of Parliament Ghulam Ali Khatana visited the Gujjar & Bakerwal Boys Hostel in Doda to review the facilities and welfare measures available for tribal students pursuing education away from home. During his visit, he interacted with students and staff members, listened to their concerns, and assured them that all necessary steps will be taken to improve both the academic environment and infrastructure of the hostel.
The MP emphasized that education is the most powerful tool for empowerment and social transformation, particularly for marginalized and tribal communities. He appreciated the dedication of the students who, despite challenges, are pursuing their academic goals with determination. Khatana reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all sections of society, especially for the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities, who form an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural and social fabric.
He also reviewed the hostel’s facilities, including accommodation, sanitation, nutrition, and learning support, and directed officials to address any deficiencies on priority. The MP encouraged students to take full advantage of available scholarship schemes, digital learning platforms, and skill development programs being introduced by the government for tribal youth.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives under the Tribal Affairs Department, Ghulam Ali Khatana said that several new hostels, model residential schools, and skill centres are being established across J&K to bridge educational gaps and create opportunities for holistic growth. He assured the students that their academic and infrastructural needs will be met through coordinated efforts between the district administration and the concerned departments.
The visit concluded with an interactive session where students shared their aspirations and suggestions for improving hostel facilities. The MP lauded their enthusiasm and promised continued support to ensure that every tribal student in J&K has access to quality education and equal opportunities for success.
