AUG 11: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed another major leap in its rail infrastructure development as Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Amritsar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Station. This modern, high-speed train is set to provide a seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers, especially the thousands of devotees who visit the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi every day.
The introduction of this new service marks yet another milestone in the unprecedented expansion of J&K’s transport network under the leadership of the Prime Minister. In recent years, the region has seen transformative growth in both passenger and freight rail connectivity, significantly improving accessibility and fueling economic activity.
The new Vande Bharat service will not only reduce travel time for pilgrims but also strengthen regional tourism, benefiting hotels, transport operators, and local businesses in Katra and surrounding areas. Enhanced connectivity is expected to encourage more visitors throughout the year, further contributing to the local economy.
Adding to this momentum, yesterday saw a landmark achievement for the Kashmir Valley’s freight transport. For the first time, a freight train successfully arrived in Anantnag from Punjab, opening new possibilities for trade and reducing the cost and time of goods transportation. This milestone is expected to ease the movement of essential commodities and boost trade for local producers and traders, paving the way for greater economic integration with the rest of the country.
Together, these developments underline the government’s commitment to ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir enjoys world-class connectivity and modern infrastructure. The combination of high-speed passenger services like the Vande Bharat and the operationalization of freight routes is poised to transform the region’s economic and social landscape in the coming years.
