AUG 30: Jammu and Kashmir Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana carried out a detailed inspection of the Sitlee Water Filtration Plant at Nagrota, Jammu, to review its functioning and assess the ongoing restoration measures. The visit comes amid repeated complaints of water supply disruptions in different parts of the city, which have caused hardships for residents.
Accompanied by senior engineers and officials of the Jal Shakti Department, the Minister examined the plant’s operational status, including filtration units, reservoirs, pumping systems, and supply pipelines. He took stock of the current water availability and distribution pattern to ensure that clean and safe water reaches all affected areas without delay.
During the review, Rana directed officials to adopt a time-bound action plan for immediate restoration of water services wherever disruptions have been reported. He also emphasized that swift response mechanisms must be in place so that technical faults or leakages are resolved before they escalate into wider public grievances.
The Minister underscored that access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity and a top priority for the Government. He said uninterrupted water supply must be ensured across all localities of Jammu, particularly in areas facing acute shortages. Stressing on accountability, he asked the concerned staff to maintain 24×7 monitoring of the filtration plant’s operations and prepare a preventive maintenance strategy to minimize chances of breakdowns in the future.
Rana also interacted with local residents and assured them that the Government, under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, is fully committed to restoring essential services on priority. He said the Jal Shakti Department has been instructed to strengthen its ground response teams, allocate additional resources, and coordinate with district administration for efficient service delivery.
Highlighting the importance of public feedback, the Minister urged citizens to promptly report supply-related issues through helplines and local offices so that corrective measures can be initiated without delay. “Transparency, accountability, and swift response will remain the guiding principles in the delivery of essential services,” he added.
The visit also included a ceremonial briefing at the plant, where officials shared data about the filtration capacity and the measures being undertaken to handle growing demand. Rana directed engineers to adopt modern technology and upgrade infrastructure in line with long-term needs. He assured that the Government will extend full support to strengthen pipelines, enhance storage, and improve distribution networks.
The inspection of the Sitlee Water Filtration Plant reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to ensure uninterrupted and safe drinking water supply to every household in Jammu. It also reflected the broader commitment of the Omar Abdullah-led Government to prioritize public welfare and reduce hardships faced by citizens due to disruption of essential services.
