AUG 30: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today visited the flood-affected areas of Bathindi and Sunjwan in Jammu to assess the damage caused by the recent spell of torrential rains. The heavy downpour left several localities inundated, causing disruption in daily life and damage to essential infrastructure.
Accompanied by local legislators and senior officers, the Minister conducted an extensive tour of the worst-hit locations. He interacted with residents, listened to their grievances, and took firsthand account of the challenges being faced by families in the aftermath of the disaster. People expressed concerns over the damage to homes, power outages, and disruption in water supply.
Responding to their concerns, Rana assured the public that the Omar Abdullah-led Government is working on a war footing to restore normalcy. He directed officials to ensure early restoration of electricity and drinking water supply, alongside swift repair of damaged roads and public utilities. He also emphasized the need for immediate rehabilitation measures to provide relief to families who lost their shelter or livelihood.
The Minister reaffirmed that the Government stands firmly with every affected household and will ensure no family is left unattended during this difficult time. He highlighted that dedicated teams have already been deployed on the ground for relief and rescue operations, and financial aid will soon be extended to those in need.
Rana further appealed to the people to remain patient while the restoration work progresses, assuring them that their safety and welfare remain the top priority. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to not only provide short-term relief but also to work towards long-term solutions to minimize the impact of such natural calamities in future.
