5 Aug: In a decisive step toward making Indian Railways safer and smarter, the indigenous Kavach 4.0 system has been commissioned on the Mathura–Kota section of the high-density Delhi–Mumbai route. Developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, Kavach 4.0 marks a major technological milestone—a safety net built in India, for India.

Approved in May 2025 for speeds up to 160 kmph, Kavach 4.0 is the latest version of the automatic train protection (ATP) system designed to prevent collisions, regulate speeds, and ensure automatic braking during emergencies. More than just a signalling tool, it is India’s answer to global-grade rail safety, aligning with world standards while drastically reducing dependency on imported systems.

This deployment is a testament to India’s engineering innovation, especially in critical infrastructure. The Delhi–Mumbai corridor, a key freight and passenger lifeline, is now better equipped to handle high-speed trains without compromising on safety.

Beyond the technology, Kavach represents a mindset shift—from reactive safety to proactive, AI-backed precision. It’s not just about avoiding accidents; it’s about predictive control, real-time communication, and placing passenger lives at the center of every journey.

As Indian Railways continues modernising its network, Kavach 4.0 is the shield that empowers speed with safety.
