AUG 28: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan, Jammu, to take stock of the prevailing situation arising out of incessant rainfall and floods across various districts of the Union Territory.
The meeting focused on ongoing rescue and relief operations, restoration of essential services, and preparedness of civil administration and security agencies to mitigate the impact of heavy rains.
Senior officials from the Union Territory administration, representatives of central agencies, Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and police attended the meeting. Detailed discussions were held to ensure seamless coordination among all stakeholders engaged in relief efforts.
LG Sinha directed the concerned authorities to work round-the-clock to safeguard lives and property, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas. He emphasized the need to maintain constant communication with district administrations, ensure timely evacuation of people from affected regions, and provide immediate medical and relief assistance to those in distress.
Special attention, he said, must be given to the restoration of essential services such as power, water supply, road connectivity, and healthcare facilities in flood-affected areas. Instructions were also issued for the continuous monitoring of river water levels and strengthening of embankments wherever necessary.
The Lieutenant Governor lauded the efforts of security forces, civil administration, and disaster response teams who have been on the ground since the beginning of the rainfall crisis. He called for a proactive approach to minimize damage and reiterated the government’s commitment to stand by the affected people in this hour of need.
The Meteorological Department has predicted continued moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas, keeping the administration on high alert. LG Sinha assured that adequate arrangements of relief camps, food supplies, and emergency healthcare are being ensured across vulnerable districts.
“Our priority is to save every life, provide immediate relief to affected families, and restore normalcy at the earliest,” the Lieutenant Governor said, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.
