OCT 17: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, chaired a Joint Media Briefing highlighting one year of achievements (Aug 2024–Sept 2025) of MDoNER, Department of Posts, and Department of Telecommunications. He was joined by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, and Sh. Chanchal Kumar.
Shri Scindia said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Northeast has transformed into a hub of connectivity, confidence, and competitiveness, guided by the pillars of Reform, Reach, and Results. He described the region as India’s “Growth Engine,” citing high literacy, youth potential, and above-average GDP growth.
MDoNER recorded its highest-ever expenditure of ₹3,447.71 crore in FY 2024–25—a 74.4% rise over last year—driven by digital monitoring, fiscal discipline, and transparent fund tracking through the Poorvottar Vikas Setu portal.
Governance reforms include Chief Minister-led Task Forces across eight sectors and an Inter-Ministerial Facilitation Mechanism that accelerated major projects such as Shillong Airport expansion, NH-10 alternate alignment in Sikkim, and Kailashahar Airport in Tripura.
Investment momentum surged with the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, yielding commitments worth ₹4.48 lakh crore. Initiatives like the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav and Bankers’ Conclave further boosted regional entrepreneurship and MSME growth.
Under the Brand Northeast strategy, eight iconic tourism sites and unique products such as Muga Silk, Lakadong Turmeric, and Queen Pineapple are being globally promoted. Airport numbers have nearly doubled to 17, while road and rail projects, including the Kaladan and India–Myanmar–Thailand Highway, aim to make the region India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.
