OCT 02: The Ministry of Rural Development actively participated in the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva – 2025’ campaign, organised from 17th September to 2nd October 2025 under the joint aegis of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The drive reflected Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness, community service, and people’s participation.
Pledge for Cleanliness
The campaign began with a Pledge Taking Ceremony on 22nd September 2025 at Kartavya Bhawan-3, New Delhi. The Secretary, Rural Development administered the pledge, with participants resolving to devote 100 hours annually to voluntary cleanliness and to inspire others to join the Swachh Bharat Mission across rural and urban areas.
Mass Cleanliness Drive
On 25th September 2025, a one-day Shramdaan was organised in the park opposite Kartavya Bhawan-3. The Secretary led officers, staff, and citizens in the cleanliness initiative, symbolising the spirit of Jan Andolan and preparing for Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd October.
Creative Engagement through ‘Swachhotsav’
A drawing competition titled ‘Swachhotsav’ was held on 26th September 2025 at Krishi Bhawan. Children, staff, and stakeholders took part, promoting awareness about hygiene and sanitation through creativity.
States and UTs Mobilised
The Department of Rural Development also directed States and UTs (except Delhi and Chandigarh) to conduct activities at Amrit Sarovar sites with MGNREGA workers, Self-Help Groups, students, and community members. The theme “Swachhotsav – Connecting Cleanliness with Festivity” guided these activities, which included pledges, Prabhat Pheris, and recognition of Safai Mitras.
Plantation Drive for Sustainability
From 17th September to 2nd October, a Nationwide Plantation Drive was undertaken, with a target of planting five lakh native seedlings. Sites were geo-tagged on the MeriLIFE portal, engaging schools, eco-clubs, and civil society groups.
Through these activities, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to Gandhian values, sustainable sanitation, and collective action for a cleaner and greener India.
