4 July: NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has highlighted India’s growing strength in the defence sector, stating that the country’s defence exports have crossed ₹38,000 crore, reflecting the success of policies aimed at promoting indigenous manufacturing and self-reliance.

Addressing a public event, the Defence Minister said India has witnessed remarkable progress in defence production over the past few years. He noted that the government’s focus on innovation, modernization, and domestic manufacturing has enabled Indian defence companies to expand their presence in international markets.

Rajnath Singh emphasized that the rise in defence exports is a testament to the quality and competitiveness of Indian-made military equipment and technologies. He added that the country is steadily transforming from being one of the world’s largest defence importers into an emerging exporter of advanced defence systems.

The Minister said initiatives under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme have strengthened India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem by encouraging greater participation from both public and private sector enterprises. Increased investments in research, development, and innovation have also contributed to the sector’s growth.

According to the Defence Minister, India’s expanding defence industry is not only enhancing national security but also creating employment opportunities, promoting technological advancement, and supporting economic development. He stressed that indigenous production helps reduce dependence on imports while strengthening strategic capabilities.

Officials noted that Indian defence products, including naval platforms, aircraft components, missile systems, surveillance equipment, protective gear, and other military technologies, are now being exported to a growing number of countries.

The government has also undertaken policy reforms to simplify defence manufacturing procedures, encourage private investment, and facilitate exports. Industry experts believe these measures have improved the competitiveness of Indian defence manufacturers in global markets.

Rajnath Singh reiterated that the government’s long-term objective is to make India a global hub for defence production and innovation. He said continued collaboration between industry, research institutions, startups, and the armed forces will play a key role in achieving this vision.

Defence analysts observed that rising exports demonstrate increasing international confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities. They believe sustained investment in technology and product development will further strengthen India’s position in the global defence market.

The Minister also underlined the importance of equipping the armed forces with modern, indigenously developed equipment while simultaneously expanding export opportunities. He said a strong domestic defence industry contributes to both national security and economic resilience.

As India continues to modernize its defence sector, the growth in exports is viewed as an important milestone in the country’s journey toward self-reliance. Officials expressed confidence that continued reforms and innovation will help India achieve even greater success in the global defence industry.

The Defence Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s strategic capabilities while promoting indigenous manufacturing as a cornerstone of national development.
