June 27: In a major boost to its digital inclusion efforts, the Government of India has revamped the Sugamya Bharat App (SBA)—a flagship initiative aimed at making India more accessible for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) and elderly citizens. The redesigned app, launched under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, now offers a more intuitive user interface and powerful AI-enabled chatbot support for real-time assistance.
Among the key highlights of the revamped app are:
-
A user-friendly interface designed for easier navigation by all users.
-
A smart AI chatbot to guide users on schemes, facilities, and grievance redressal.
-
Seamless access to government circulars, schemes, and notifications on accessibility.
-
Enhanced features allowing users to upload geo-tagged photos of inaccessible locations in public infrastructure, transport, or digital platforms, helping officials take prompt action.
As of June 25, 2025, the app has seen 83,791 downloads (82,291 on Android and 1,500 on iOS) and has 14,358 registered users. Launched originally in 2021, the SBA has empowered citizens to report over 2,705 accessibility complaints, out of which 1,897 have been resolved, showcasing the government’s continued efforts toward building a barrier-free and inclusive India.
The app not only strengthens India’s commitment to the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan (Accessible India Campaign) but also enables direct citizen participation in improving public spaces and digital services for all.
The app is freely available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and citizens are encouraged to download it, raise accessibility concerns, and support the vision of a more inclusive India.
